On Demand Plus

ATYP On Demand plus is a complete digital education package for Primary teachers, using drama and literacy strategies to teach the F-6 curriculum.

An annual subscription gives you access to detailed 8-week units of work with accompanying resources, suggested activities and instructional videos led by ATYP Teaching Artists. The initial three units are linked to the History curriculum: Past and Present (F-2), First Nations Connections (Year 3-4) and Waves of Migration (Year 5-6).

Your subscription also includes access to all the features of ATYP On Demand, including a Workshop series and recordings of past ATYP productions suitable for Primary and Secondary school audiences. Each production is accompanied by a series of resources for teachers.

ATYP On Demand Plus is a digital platform that provides primary educators access to a series of detailed, multi-week units of work that use Drama and Literacy strategies to teach content and concepts within the Primary Curriculum.

The program has been developed with academics from The University of Sydney including Professor Emerita Robyn Ewing AM, Mrs Catherine Smyth and Dr Alison O’Grady.

In 2022, subscribed schools will have access to six complete units of work linked to the following Australian Curriculum areas:

DART Learning On Demand Plus Offering

DART (Distance And Rural Technology) Learning is a service provided by the NSW Department of Education.

We are offering DART registered teachers access to free lessons from the Our Changing Environment Unit to celebrate special weeks of the school year.

To request access to the Our Changing Environment lessons, fill out this registration form and provide 3 lessons of the unit for free, for a limited time only.

Register for DART On Demand Plus

Each eight week unit of work includes instructional videos featuring ATYP Teaching Artists that enable non-drama trained teachers and primary generalist teachers to use the units with ease. All activities are linked to the Australian curriculum: History syllabus, making it accessible for teachers across Australia to integrate the units and resources into their programs and lessons.

Participating teachers receive two professional development sessions, either via Zoom or in-person where ATYP teaching artists will outline how to tailor the units and programs to suit your classroom, building your confidence in delivering the content.

Subscription per school for schools with a ICSEA value over 1001 $500

Subscription per school for schools with an ICSEA value of 1000 or less $450

*This is an annual subscription, with the option to renew at the end of the calendar year.

ATYP is also able to offer face to face in-school workshops delivering a lesson or a whole unit of work to your students in the classroom. We are also available to extend the in-school workshops to regional areas through an artist in residence program.

Past and Present
Years F-2

In this unit we’re going to use drama strategies to explore concepts of past and present, including how things change and how things stay the same. The drama and literacy strategies will enable the students to learn about the concepts of past and present through literature, objects, images and stories.

Students will develop an understanding of continuity and change in family life in Australia. Students will learn about the significant person, Miles Franklin, through an historical inquiry into her life as one of Australia’s first female writers and examine her challenges as a woman of her time. This exploration will be done through the book Miss Franklin by Libby Hathorn.

First Nations Connections
Years 3-4

This unit uses drama strategies and other embodied methods to explore the important ways in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are deeply connected to Country/Place, culture, family and community. This unit is an excellent introduction for students to undertake before studying the European colonisation of Australia and subsequent historical events. By looking at history through an indigenous lens, students from all backgrounds will gain a deeper understanding of and a greater empathy towards Indigenous Australians, their cultures and histories.

Waves of Migration
Years 5-6

In this unit we use drama strategies to explore the experiences of migrants in Australia throughout Australian history and consider the diverse reasons people might leave their country of birth to start a new life elsewhere. The unit will focus on migration from the 1800’s including a focus on The Gold Rush.

We’ve partnered with the State Library of New South Wales to access their primary sources on migration, including a video discussing a well known migrant and explorer Ludwig Leichhardt, presented by a State Library of NSW curator.

Years F-2

In this unit, we’re going to use drama and literacy strategies to explore concepts in the F-2 Physical Health and Education curriculum.

The unit focuses on understanding our and others’ emotions as well as our similarities and differences. The unit also explores concepts of changing relationships, and dealing with change and transitions. In the unit we explore the nature of friendship and belonging.

Bringing Poetry Alive
Years 3-6

Developed in partnership with Poetry in Action.

This multidisciplinary unit assists students in their understanding of different types of poems and poetic techniques. It provides teachers with new and innovative ways to teach poetry, bringing poetry alive in the classroom through drama and literacy strategies.

In this unit, students will respond to poetry through writing their own poems, understanding classic and contemporary poems, using sound, voice, movement and imagination to explore key ideas, symbols and images.

August and Jones : Resilience and Change
Years 3-6

August and Jones is a multidisciplinary unit for Years 3-6. It uses drama and literacy strategies to explore content, ideas and concepts in the Stage 2 and 3 English and Creative Arts curriculum. 

The unit focuses on a novel and explores key concepts such as friendship, change and empathy. August and Jones by Pip Harry has been nominated in the Younger Readers category of the Children’s Book Council of Australia.
